Peer Tutoring Application
Tutoring Program
The Tutoring Program is a free tutorial service provided by the Department of Multicultural Services and Office of Honors and Academic Programs. The program bridges the gap between student performance and academic expectations for students having academic difficulty. The mission of the Tutoring Program is to facilitate student academic success by providing personalized academic assistance and course‐specific peer tutoring to assist students in the development of study skills essential to success in coursework. Tutoring assistance is offered for homework assignments, class work, as well as mid‐term and final examinations.
Hours of Operation
Tutoring services are available four days a week ‐ Sunday through Wednesday; 4:00 ‐ 8:00pm, beginning the third week of the Fall and Spring semesters.
Position
The roles of a peer tutor include
- Assisting students in the application of skills acquired in class.
- Providing support and individualized approaches to learning.
- Leading one‐on‐one weekly tutoring sessions.
- Participating in tutoring training as scheduled.
- Assisting in the development of materials to aid students in independent learning.
- Maintaining professionalism, promoting use of services and acting as role models.
- Keeping accurate record of hours worked, students tutored and student progress.
- Reporting to Tutor Coordinator and Program Administrator issues associated with tutoring.
Qualifications/Salary/Benefits
- Current Texas A&M students, in good academic standing.
- Completed at least two semesters at Texas A&M and received at least an “A” in one or more of the following Texas A&M courses (while at Texas A&M); BIOL111, BIOL112, CHEM101, CHEM102, CHEM107, CHEM 227, MATH131, MATH141, MATH142, MATH150, MATH151, MATH 152, MATH166, PHYS201, PHYS218 , PHYS208.
- Grade Point Range (GPR) of at least 2.5.
- Salary – $7.50 an hour.
- 9‐12 hours per week for 11 weeks in the Fall and 11 weeks in the Spring.
- Applicants must agree to a one‐year minimum contract.
