Leadership Institute


Program: Institute for the Development and Education of Asian American Leaders (IDEAAL) 

 

Purpose:

This organization’s intention is to enhance the experience of its participants by providing the opportunity to explore leadership and identity as it applies to Asian American Culture. The Institute for the Development for Asian American Leaders will accomplish its purpose through:

  • A greater understanding of self and community
  • Workshops, programs, discussion forums, and peer mentoring
  • Exposure to issues of culture, leadership, service and community as it applies to Asian Americans
  • A broadening of perspectives
  • An enhancement in networking, social, and leadership skills

Members (Participants and Mentors)

  • Participants: Participants will go through a semester long program dealing with issues of identity, leadership, and culture as is pertains to Asian Americans. Specific topics covered will range from the image and perceptions of Asian Americans, to Asian American influential leaders, to Asian vs. American leadership styles. Workshops will provide participants with a formal education on the issues impacting themselves and their community. Participants will also be given to opportunity to do independent research on workshop topics. Participants must be 1st year students with a minimum GPR of 2.5.
  • Mentors: upperclassmen (juniors and seniors) or sophomores that have completed the IDEAAL program as participants are eligible. The primary purpose of mentors is to provide guidance and insight to first year students. Mentors will become role models by establishing a personal relationship with the participant and helping to socially integrate the participant into the Aggie community. Finally, mentors will also attend workshops with their mentees (participants).
