Hispanic Presidents’ Council (HPC) hosted its Latinx in Leadership event Wednesday evening in the Memorial Student Center. The event included peer dialogue and featured a panel of six students who shared experiences about their different leadership roles within their campus organizations.

Each panel member served in different organizations that affect the lives of Aggies. The panel discussed how they serve students through their positions, ways to get involved on campus, and how they use their skills to contribute to the needs of Aggies.

The panel included: Luis Moreno (Latino Males United), Andrea Flores (Class of 2019 President), Ricardo Andre Mercado Arroyo (Puerto Rican Student Association), Armando Vendrell-Velez (Maroon Coats), and Clarissa Rodriguez (Student Senate).

“The event was a way for students who maybe weren’t as involved on campus, to learn how to be involved in the community. Attendees were able to hear firsthand from students who have made it or who are leading the way,” said Cruz Rios, Assistant Director for the Department of Multicultural Services.

“In the Q&A portion, the panel members were able to share their stories and backgrounds of how they grew up, the challenges faced within their organization roles, and also give insight into how they’ve been able to give back to the university,” he said.

Rios said the event aligns with the core mission of HPC in building community and strengthening the voice of Latinx students on campus.

“I think the panel pushed the idea of how getting involved can affect the culture,” he said. “From HPC’s standpoint, it was a way to communicate that resources within HPC, like LaFamilia, are available to help other students get involved with additional mainstream organizations like Students Government and Class Councils.”
